  1. (1)Roosevelt saw Japan as the rising power in Asia, in terms of military strength and economic modernization. He viewed Korea as a backward nation and did not object to Japanese moves to control the strategic Korean peninsula. With the withdrawal of the American legation from Seoul and the refusal of the Secretary of State to receive a Korean protest mission, the Americans signaled they would not intervene militarily to stop Japan's planned takeover of Korea

    2.Angel Island had immigrants from Asia.And Ellis Island had immigrants from Europe. Angel Island was on the west and Ellis Island was on the east. And Angel Island was more strict. Ellis Island was more better because all you needed to come over here was to have good health and 25 dollars.

    1. President Roosevelt’s “Gentlemen’s Agreement” with Japan was established so the U.S. would not put limits on Japanese students or immigration. It also meant that Japan could no longer allow emigration to the U.S., unless it was to be with family.

    2. Three differences between Ellis Island is:

    A. Ellis Island is in NY (between New York and Jersey City) and Angel Island is San Francisco, California.

    B. It was way harder to get through get through security on Angels Island than on Ellis Island.

    C. More Europeans came through Ellis Island and more Asians and people from the Caribbean came through Angel Island.

    3. The purpose the National Reclamation Act in 1902 was to make the dry barren land in western America flourish .

    2. – Ellis Island and Angel Island were both located in 2 different locations, one in California, and other close to New Jersey.
    - Ellis Island was an immigration place for the Europeans, and the Angel Island was an immigration place for the Japanese and Chinese.
    - For those immigrants who went to Ellis island they would be asked a simple question like they would be showed 16 different smiley faces and they had to tell how much were looking to the left. As for the Angel Island it was all different, those immigrants would be asked all type of questions.
    3.The act was for congress to start harnessing on the western states to encourage people to settle down in the west.

    1) The Gentlemen's Agreement allowed less friction between Japan and the U.S. It was an agreement that Japan would no longer allow further immigrants into the U.S while the U.S would not impose restrictions on Japanese immigrants or students.

    2) Ellis Island is located on the East while Angel Island is located on the West. Ellis Island had immigrants arrive from Europe while Angel Island had immigrants from Asia. Angel Island's rules to enter the island were very, Strict with 50,000 Asian immigrants arriving between 1910 and 1940. Entering Ellis Island only required having a clean bill of health, have a clean criminal record and $25 in cash.

    2.Ellis Island is near the statue pf libery in New York and Angel Island is near the San fransico Bay. Anel Island had immigrants from Asi,but mainly fron China and Japan. Ellis Island haf immigrants from Europe. Ellis Island opened in 1892 and Angel Island opened in 1910.

    2. Three differences between Ellis and angel island are :
    Many Europeans migrated to Ellis Island, but Asians came to Angel Island.
    These islands are located on the opposite sides of one another; Ellis Island being on the east while Angel Island was located on the west.
    No one really knows about Angel Island, but Ellis Island on the other hand is written about in textbooks and acknowledge for being the place where immigrants from other countries went to.

    • Majority of people who entered Angel Island was Asian mainly because of where it was placed in the West Coast(San Francisco, California)
    • Only accepted immigrants who had relatives or knew someone in the U.S.
    • It was difficult to get out the building .You couldn’t walk out you had to be picked up
    Ellis Island
    • Majority of the people who came through Ellis Island were from Europe. Because it was placed in the East Coast (near New Jersey)
    • You were able to leave Ellis Island as long as you were healthy.
    • Ellis Island was not as strict.

    segregated the city's Japanese students into a school where Chinese students had already been segregated. Japanese felt insulted so diplomats went President Theodore Roosevelt to mediate. Roosevelt called the San Francisco mayor and School Board to Washington and negotiated with the Japanese to hamper immigration to the United States in substitute for the desegregation of the San Francisco schools. This became known as the "Gentlemen Agreement.
